About Our Club

The Purpose of
Placerville Shakespeare Club

              The purpose of the Placerville Shakespeare Club is to:

  • promote sociability and friendship among its members.

  • promote and encourage the pleasure, exercise and recreation of its members.

  • preserve the historic clubhouse for club members and as a community asset for El Dorado County residents.

  • cultivate and improve the minds of its members by studying the works of eminent authors.

  • provide local scholarships.

  • stimulate civic pride by aiding in improvements of local interest.

  • provide assistance to local charities and youth.

  • manage and conduct entertainments, excursions and social meetings of its members.

  • conduct business according to Articles of Incorporation of the Club.



The Placerville Shakespeare Club was established in May of 1897 and continues to be a gathering place for women in the community.

  • February 13, 2019  "ART WITH A HEART" CLASS   Instructor, Lynne Bridges

  • March 23, 2019  "QUARTZ MOUNTAIN RAMBLERS" Blue Grass Band  On Saturday March 23 the Placerville Shakespeare Club is pleased to invite the community to an afternoon of music and fun featuring the very talented bluegrass band the "QUARTZ MOUNTAIN RAMBLERS."  In addition, the Highway 50 Brewery will be offering complimentary beer tasting.  This musical event will be at the Placerville Shakespeare Clubhouse at 2940 Bedford Avenue.  The doors will open at 3:00 p.m. with a Social Hour.  A no-host wine and larger beer bar will be offered.  The music will begin at 4:00 p.m.  The $20 tickets are available in advance and at the door.  Seating will be limited.  For tickets/information contact Alice (530) 622-3504.  

  • March 27, 2019  "BRIDGE PARTY"  "Let's Make A Deal" the Placerville Shakespeare Club Annual Bridge Party will be held March 27th and will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the clubhouse, 2940 Bedford Ave.  The community is invited to a day of Brilliant Bridge - Fabulous Food - Delightful Door Prizes.  Men and women bridge players are welcome.  $40 a pair includes a morning snack, lunch, cash prizes as well as door prizes.  Partners will play together the entire day.  Call Sari (530) 409-1729 or Dolores (916) 802-0188 for reservations/information.

  • April 28, 2019  "AUTHORS' DAY"   On April 28th, the Placerville Shakespeare Club will present for the community their annual "Authors' Day" featuring author presentations, question & answer period, book sales, book signings, door prizes and light refreshments.  Authors appearing: Duncan MacVean, D.V.M. - author of non fiction animal stories; Darby Patterson - author of mysteries; Amy Rogers, M.D., Ph.D. - author of science thrillers; Wendy Stevens - poet.  This year's authors are sure to present a varied and interesting program for all readers to enjoy.  The doors will open at Noon with the program beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the clubhouse, 2940 Bedford Avenue, Placerville.  Tickets $10.  All event proceeds will fund scholarships for local students.  For tickets/information - call Bonnie (530) 626-5451 or Rosie (530) 626-5103.  Tickets will also be available at the door.  

  • May 2, 3 & 4, 2019  "SPRING RUMMAGE & PLANT SALE"  The Placerville Shakespeare Club's Annual Giant Spring Rummage Sale will be held on Thursday, May 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Friday, May 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 2940 Bedford Avenue.  This year's spring sale will feature a large selection of jewelry, house wares, decorative items, garage items, books, toys, clothing and many other treasures.  There will be something for everyone!  In addition, a Saturday only plant sale will be held from  8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. outside in the front yard of the Clubhouse.   There will be a large selection of perennials, vegetable plants and tomatoes galore.  In addition, there will be yard art available.  Come early for the best selection and bring your really big shopping bag.   Carole Burnley, Kem Pence & Anita Young, Co-Chairmen

  • May 29, 2019  "SPRING FASHION SHOW"  In celebration of the Wakamatsu Tea and Silk Farm 150th Anniversary, the Placerville Shakespeare Club has entitled its Annual Spring Fashion Show "Cherry Blossom Time." This year's show will highlight the latest spring and summer fashions from Chico's, Khakis, My Martha Design Boutique, Off Broadway, and Sole Desire.  An exciting Silent Auction will be held as well as delightful door prizes presented.  This fashionable event will be held at the clubhouse at 2940 Bedford Avenue on Wednesday, May 29 beginning with a Social Hour at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at Noon.  This popular show is always a sellout, so purchase your $30 tickets early from Betty at 530-409-8188 or Liz 530-622-0887.  Reserved tables for 8 are available for $240.
