The Purpose of
Placerville Shakespeare Club

              The purpose of the Placerville Shakespeare Club is to:

  • promote sociability and friendship among its members.

  • promote and encourage the pleasure, exercise and recreation of its members.

  • preserve the historic clubhouse for club members and as a community asset for El Dorado County residents.

  • cultivate and improve the minds of its members by studying the works of eminent authors.

  • provide local scholarships.

  • stimulate civic pride by aiding in improvements of local interest.

  • provide assistance to local charities and youth.

  • manage and conduct entertainments, excursions and social meetings of its members.

  • conduct business according to Articles of Incorporation of the Club.

 

 

The Placerville Shakespeare Club was established in May of 1897 and continues to be a gathering place for women in the community.

  • December  3, 2022,  One day only -  Saturday  Winter Rummage Sale  Placerville Shakespeare Club's Semi-Annual  Rummage Sale will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 2940 Bedford Avenue.  This year's winter sale will feature festive Holiday Decorations, gift ideas, stocking stuffers, winter clothing and more.  There will be something for everyone!  Come early and bring your really big shopping bag.   Ella Chiyo, Joyce Francies, & Kem Pence, Chairmen.

  • January 29, 2023, Sunday Murder Mystery Lunch ....."Engagement of Murder"  Renaissance Theme Murder Mystery to be held at the Placerville Shakespeare Clubhouse, 2940 Bedford Avenue, Placerville.  Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and Lunch is at 12:00 (3 acts/3 courses). Interactive Entertainment.   Renaissance period clothing is encouraged. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.  Tickets are available for $35.00 per person from Cherie Fechner, Chairman 916-337-5045. 

  • February 12, 2023, Sunday Quilt Auction  Sierra Wildlife Rescue and the Placerville Shakespeare Club are co-hosting a one day only "QUILT SILENT AUCTION."  A large selection of quilts of various styles, patterns, sizes and colors will be available for purchase.  Several other quilted items will also be a part of the auction.  A number of the quilts are from the Alice Henry Estate.  Alice, an avid quilter, was a beloved and active member of both organizations for a number of years.  Each stitch of Alice's quilts was made with love and care.  Also available for the silent auction bidding is an all-time quilters' favorite from the 1950's, a Singer Featherweight 221K sewing machine with attachments and case, in excellent condition.

    The sale will be held at the Placerville Shakespeare Clubhouse at 2940 Bedford Ave.  All sale items will be on full display and open for Silent Auction Bids beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Bids will close at 3:00 p.m.

  • March 29, 2023, Wednesday  Bridge Party  Open to the Public. “Let’s Make A Deal” the Placerville Shakespeare Club Annual Bridge Party will be held Wednesday, March 29th beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the clubhouse, 2940 Bedford Ave. Play begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. The community is invited to a day of Brilliant Bridge – Fabulous Food – Delightful Door Prizes. Men and women bridge players are welcome. $50 a pair includes a morning snack, lunch and cash prizes - as well as door prizes. Partners will play together the entire day.   • April 30, 2023, Sunday  Author's Day   On April 30th, the Placerville Shakespeare Club will present for the community their annual "Authors' Day" featuring author presentations, questions & answer period, book sales, book signings, door prizes and light refreshments.   Authors appearing: Claire Booth - author of mysteries;  Nancy Harman - author of historical fiction; Jennifer Forsberg Meyer - author of rural life/pets;  Roselle Madrone - memoir;  Cindy Sample - author of humorous mysteries.  This year's authors are sure to present a varied and interesting program for all readers to enjoy.  The doors will open at noon with the program beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the clubhouse, 2940 Bedford Avenue, Placerville.  Tickets  $15.  All event proceeds will fund scholarships for local students.  For tickets/information call (916)802-0186 or (602)-826-7317.  Tickets will also be available at the door.  

  • May 11, 12 & 13, 2023, Thursday, Friday & Saturday  Spring Rummage Sale  Placerville Shakespeare Club's Annual Giant Spring Rummage Sale will be held on Thursday, May 11th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday, May 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 2940 Bedford Avenue.  This year's spring sale will feature a large selection of jewelry, lots of clothing, house wares, decorative items, a wide variety of garage items, books, dolls, toys, and many other treasures.  In addition, a Saturday only plant sale will begin at 8:00 a.m.  There will be something for everyone!  Come early and bring your really big shopping bag.  

  • May 13, 2023 Saturday   Spring Plant Sale  The Placerville Shakespeare Club's 2023 Annual Spring Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 13th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. outside in the front yard of the clubhouse at 2940 Bedford Avenue, Placerville.  There will be a large selection of perennials, vegetable plants and tomatoes galore.  In addition, there will be a wide variety of yard art available.  Come early for the best bargains!
