The Purpose of
Placerville Shakespeare Club

              The purpose of the Placerville Shakespeare Club is to:

  • promote sociability and friendship among its members.

  • promote and encourage the pleasure, exercise and recreation of its members.

  • preserve the historic clubhouse for club members and as a community asset for El Dorado County residents.

  • cultivate and improve the minds of its members by studying the works of eminent authors.

  • provide local scholarships.

  • stimulate civic pride by aiding in improvements of local interest.

  • provide assistance to local charities and youth.

  • manage and conduct entertainments, excursions and social meetings of its members.

  • conduct business according to Articles of Incorporation of the Club.



The Placerville Shakespeare Club was established in May of 1897 and continues to be a gathering place for women in the community.

  • October 28, 2017  "HARVEY"   On Saturday, October 28, the Placerville Shakespeare Club will present "Harvey"  performed by CHERRY ON TOP THEATER PRODUCTIONS.   The 1944 Pulitzer Prize winning play is a light-hearted comedy about a perfect gentleman and his best friend, Harvey, who just happens to be a 6'3 " invisible rabbit.  Cherry On Top Theater Productions is dedicated to a creative and inspiring live theater experience for all to enjoy.  

    This delightful event will be at the Placerville Shakespeare Clubhouse at 2940 Bedford in Placerville.  There will be a 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Social Hour featuring appetizers and a No Host Wine Bar.  "Harvey" will begin at 5:30 p.m.  The $20 tickets are available from Alice 530-622-3504 or Tina 530-621-1447.  Tickets will also be available at the door.

  • December 2, 2017  "Previously Enjoyed Treasures Sale"  The Placerville Shakespeare Club is hosting a special Winter 
    Rummage Sale featuring warm winter clothing such as coats, jackets, sweaters.  Festive holiday decorations will be offered as well as 
    many under-the-tree gifts, books, toys, puzzles and games.  This will be a one-day-only sale on Saturday, December 2, beginning at 
    9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  There will be something for everyone at the 2940 Bedford Avenue Placerville Shakespeare Clubhouse.  
    Come early for the best bargains.

  • March 17, 2018  "Men of Worth" concert.  The Placerville Shakespeare Club is pleased to present an afternoon of live Celtic music and fun on St. Patrick's Day with Donnie Macdonald and James Keigher in concert on Saturday March 17.  Their international act is a unique combination of humorous exciting tunes and soulful, heartfelt ballads for all to enjoy.  THE MEN OF WORTH concert of Irish and Scottish music combines traditional and contemporary styles.  Doors will open at 2:00 p.m.  the concert will begin at 3:00 p.m. to  5:00 p.m.  at the Placerville Shakespeare Clubhouse at 2940 Bedford Avenue.  Light refreshments and a no-host bar will be available.  This will be a sellout event, so purchase your tickets early from Liz at (530) 306-5436 or from Cari at ccdewolf1@gmail.com.  Tickets:  $20.00 for adults, $10.00 for children 10 and under.  

  • March 28, 2018  "Bridge Party"  "Let's Make A Deal" the Placerville Shakespeare Club Annual Bridge Party will be held March 28th and will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the clubhouse, 2940 Bedford AvenueThe community is invited to a day of Brilliant Bridge - Fabulous Food - Delightful Door Prizes.  Men and women bridge players are welcome.  $40 a pair includes a morning snack, lunch, cash prizes as well as door prizes.  Partners will play together the entire day.  Call Dolores (916) 802-0186 for reservations and Kathy (530) 622-4039 for information.  Kathy Walter & Andi Winters, Co-Chairs

  • April 22, 2018  Authors' Day  On April 22, the Placerville Shakespeare Club will present for the community, their annual "Authors' Day" featuring author presentations, question & answer period, book sales, book signings, door prizes and light refreshments.  Authors appearing: Kristopher Schulz - author of humor & local color, Catriona McPherson - author of mysteries, Danna Wilberg - author of suspense/romance novels, Herb Tanomoto - author of local California history (The Wakamatsu Tea & Silk Colony).  The doors will open at Noon with the program beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the clubhouse, 2940 Bedford Avenue, Placerville.  Tickets $10.  For tickets/.information - call Loretta (530) 644-2427.  Tickets will also be available at the door.
